Marketplace payouts

Marketplace payouts that run themselves

Marketplace payouts in FractionalPay run on the schedule you set: every Friday, each seller's available balance above the minimum goes out through your own payment account, minus holds and open refunds, with a ledger entry for every step.

  • Weekly, daily or monthly runs with a minimum per seller
  • Holds released when the return window ends
  • Negative balances netted against the next payout

The weekly payout run

What happens between Monday and Friday

Every order already carries its split, so a payout run is not a calculation exercise. It is a sweep of balances that are due. Here is what FractionalPay does for a weekly schedule that pays sellers on Friday.

  1. 01

    Shares become available

Each seller share starts as pending, moves to held if a hold applies, and becomes available on its availability date.

  2. 02

    Holds are released

Held amounts whose return window has passed move to available and fire hold.released.

  3. 03

    Balances are netted

Refunds and negative balances are subtracted. Sellers below the minimum payout roll over to the next run.

  4. 04

    Instructions are sent

Payouts are created on your connected account, marked scheduled, then paid or failed as the operator reports back.

One seller, one week

How a seller payout is put together

Seller 0417 sold goods worth 2,300.00 USD this week, and after the 20 percent platform commission their share was 1,840.00 USD. The marketplace holds 10 percent of each seller share for 14 days to cover returns. Two weeks of hold expire today, one order was refunded, and last week a late chargeback left the seller 35.00 USD in the negative.

Every line in that table is a ledger transaction you can open, and the payout itself is one more. The seller's statement shows the same lines, so a support question about "why did I get less this week" is answered by a link, not a spreadsheet.

The money for this payout is already in your own platform account at your payment operator. FractionalPay works out the amount and sends the instruction; it never holds, pools or transmits funds and is not a payment institution.

Failed payouts

When a payout bounces

Bank details change, accounts get closed, and a small share of payouts in any marketplace come back. In FractionalPay a failed payout is marked failed with the reason your operator returned, a payout.failed event is sent to your endpoint, and the amount stays owed to the seller in the ledger. Nothing silently disappears.

Once the seller fixes their connected account, you retry the payout from the payouts board, or leave it and the balance joins the next scheduled run. Your support team sees the same status the seller asks about.

Refunds that arrive after a payout work the other way: the reversal becomes a negative balance and is subtracted from the next payout. Sellers are never paid twice for the same order, and you never have to chase an invoice for a refund that was already settled.

For the payouts team

One calendar for every seller payout

The payouts board shows what goes out this week, what is held and why, which sellers rolled over below the minimum and which payouts failed. Finance approves the run instead of building it, and engineers stop being the people who rerun a script on Friday afternoon.

If you also pay vendors on a multi-vendor store, the same schedules apply, see vendor payouts. Mass payouts to partners and contractors outside a marketplace are covered on the payout platform page.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Something else on your mind? Write to [email protected] or read the API documentation.

Can different sellers have different payout schedules?
Yes. Each beneficiary is attached to a payout schedule. Most sellers can be weekly on Friday while high-volume sellers are paid daily and small ones monthly, each with its own minimum.
What happens to a seller below the minimum payout?
Their available balance stays in the ledger and rolls over to the next run. It is paid out on the first payout date where it reaches the minimum.
How long can we hold seller funds for returns?
You set the hold percentage and the number of days on the rule line, for example 10 percent for 14 days. Holds are on Growth and Scale and are released automatically on the date.
Where does the payout money come from?
From your own platform account at your payment operator. FractionalPay sends the payout instruction to that account and records the result. We never hold, pool or transmit funds.
Do you charge per payout?
No. Plans are flat monthly prices with a split flow limit. Your operator's own payout fees stay as they are.
Can we see a payout before it goes out?
Yes. Scheduled payouts are visible on the board and through GET /payouts before the run. On Scale, payouts above your threshold wait in awaiting approval until a second person approves them.
