Trolley alternative
A Trolley alternative that splits first
Looking for a Trolley alternative because payouts are not your bottleneck, working out each payout is. FractionalPay splits every incoming payment by rule, keeps a double-entry ledger and builds the payout schedule from it, for a flat monthly fee.
Trolley is built for recipient payouts and tax forms. It pays people out well. It does not divide each incoming payment between parties by rules, so the amounts you send it still have to come from somewhere.
- Payouts calculated from real payment splits

The missing step
What happens before a payout exists
A payout tool needs an amount per recipient. On a platform, that amount is the sum of many small shares of many payments. Take one 500 USD sale on a creator platform: the creator earns 70 percent, the platform keeps 20 percent and the affiliate who sent the buyer gets 10 percent. FractionalPay writes those three shares the moment the payment succeeds, then adds them to each party's balance for the next payout run.

With Trolley alone, your team would compute these numbers somewhere else, usually in code or a spreadsheet, and then upload the totals. With FractionalPay, the rule computes them and the ledger keeps the proof. Payouts are sent as instructions to your own account at your payment operator, through the connected accounts of each beneficiary.

Refunds after payout
A partial refund on the same sale
Ten days later the buyer is refunded 100 USD. The creator was already paid. A payout tool has no record of how that sale was divided, so someone has to work out who gives back what. FractionalPay reverses the refund in the same proportions and carries the creator's negative amount into the next payout.

Each reversal is its own ledger transaction that balances to zero, and the refund fires a split.reversed webhook. If your rule says platform first, the platform absorbs the refund before anyone else. Read more on revenue sharing software and affiliate payouts.

A note on the money itself: on FractionalPay, payments land in your own platform account at a licensed payment operator. FractionalPay calculates the splits, keeps the ledger and sends payout instructions to that account. It never holds, pools or transmits funds and it is not a payment institution. Honest fit
When Trolley is the better choice
If the amounts you owe each person are already known and simple, and the hard part is reaching them, Trolley may serve you better than any split engine.
- You collect tax forms from a large number of individual recipients and need that process at scale
- You pay individuals worldwide and need many payout methods to reach them
- Each recipient is owed a known amount, with no per-payment rules or refunds to reverse
What you get instead
The split layer, on every plan
Payouts still go out on your schedule. The difference is that every amount traces back to a payment, a rule version and a ledger transaction. Engineers can use the payouts API and finance can work in the dashboard.
Each feature is included from the plan shown and in every plan above it. Compare plans.
