Finix alternatives

Finix alternative for platforms that want to keep Stripe

Finix is a payment processor that lets a software platform become its own payment facilitator, with interchange-plus pricing and its own merchant onboarding. If your checkout already runs on Stripe and what you actually need is control over who gets which share of each payment, FractionalPay gives you split rules, proportional refunds, a double-entry ledger and scheduled payouts on the Stripe account you already have.

The question behind most Finix evaluations is simple. Do you want to own payment processing, or do you want to own the split? They are different projects with very different timelines.

  • No processor migration or card re-tokenization
  • Splits run the moment a Stripe payment succeeds
  • Flat monthly plans, no per-transaction fee from us

Why teams compare

What Finix is built for and what it asks of you

Finix sells payments infrastructure to vertical software companies and marketplaces. You become the merchant of record for your sub-merchants, onboard them through Finix, set your own pricing on top of interchange and keep the margin. For a platform processing tens of millions a year, that margin can be real money, and that is the main reason Finix ends up on a shortlist.

The cost of that model is the move itself. Switching processors means a new underwriting review, re-onboarding every seller or provider as a Finix sub-merchant, migrating stored cards, rebuilding checkout and webhooks, and taking on payfac duties such as risk monitoring and dispute handling. Plan on months of engineering and compliance work, not a sprint.

Plenty of teams start that evaluation because Stripe Connect alone did not give them the split logic they wanted: three or more parties per payment, holds, partial refunds that reverse every share, and a ledger finance can reconcile. That part does not require a new processor. It requires a split and ledger layer on top of the Stripe account you already run.

  • Percentage, fixed and remainder lines on every Stripe payment
  • Proportional refunds, even after a provider was already paid
  • One double-entry ledger from the charge to the payout
  • Daily reconciliation against your Stripe balance transactions

What 400,000 USD a month costs on each setup

Take a US services marketplace with 400,000 USD in monthly card volume across 4,000 payments of 100 USD, 300 active providers who keep 80% and get one ACH payout a month. On Finix Standard the platform fees sit on top of interchange and network costs, which depend on your card mix and are passed through. On Stripe the 2.9% plus 30 cents card price already includes them.

    $14,524.00

Finix comes to 2,700 USD a month plus interchange and network fees. If those pass-through costs average below about 2.9% of your volume, Finix is cheaper at this size, and that gap grows with volume. That is the honest case for moving. The other side is a processor migration, payfac compliance and the split, refund and ledger logic you still write yourself on Finix. Many teams at this stage ask Stripe for interchange-plus pricing first and keep their stack. See how payouts are scheduled on marketplace payouts.

What you stop building

The split work FractionalPay takes off your engineers

On Finix, as on Stripe Connect alone, the processor moves the money and your code decides the shares. In FractionalPay these pieces come built in.

Honest fit

When Finix is the better choice

Finix wins in several real situations, and an add-on on top of Stripe will not change the economics for you. Pick Finix when owning processing is the goal.

  • Payments revenue is part of your business model and you want the margin over interchange
  • Your card volume is large enough that interchange-plus pricing beats a blended rate by a wide margin
  • You need in-person terminals and online payments under one processor for your sub-merchants
  • You are ready to staff risk, underwriting and dispute operations as a payment facilitator
  • Your sellers are not on Stripe today and you are choosing a processor from scratch

Other options

Other Finix alternatives US platforms evaluate

FractionalPay fits one shape of business: payments already collected on Stripe and split between three or more parties. These are the other names that usually sit next to Finix on a shortlist, with the job each one is built for.

  • Stripe Connect on its own, when your split is a single application fee and refunds only ever touch one seller (see Stripe Connect split payments)
  • Adyen for Platforms, when you want an enterprise processor with interchange-plus pricing and global acquiring (see our Adyen for Platforms alternative page)
  • Stax Connect, when you want a white-label payfac stack with acquiring, risk and billing in one package
  • Dots, when payout reach matters most and you already know each payee's amount (see our Dots alternative page)
  • Hyperwallet, now PayPal Enterprise Payouts, for prepaid cards, checks and cash pickup in 200+ markets (see Hyperwallet alternatives)

Getting started

Adding split control to Stripe in four steps

There is no cutover day and no card migration. New payments start splitting as soon as a rule is live. Engineers can do each step through the split payment API.

  1. 01

    Connect Stripe

Link the Stripe platform account where checkout already runs. Charges, refunds and disputes start mirroring automatically.

  2. 02

    Bring in your sellers

Import providers who already have connected accounts by CSV, and send the rest through Stripe's hosted onboarding.

  3. 03

    Write the split rule

Provider percentage, platform fee, partner share and a hold until the service date. Test it on a real payment amount first.

  4. 04

    Set the payout schedule

Daily, weekly or monthly with a minimum amount, and each payout written to the ledger next to the payments it came from.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Something else on your mind? Write to [email protected] or read the API documentation.

What is the best alternative to Finix?
It depends on why you looked at Finix. If you want to become a payment facilitator and keep the processing margin, Adyen for Platforms and Stax Connect are the closest alternatives. If you already collect on Stripe and mainly need split rules, refunds and payouts across several parties, a split layer such as FractionalPay on Stripe is faster and needs no migration.
How much does Finix cost?
Finix publishes a Standard tier for platforms at 0.30% plus 15 cents per card transaction with network costs passed through, 1% (capped at 10 USD) plus 25 cents per ACH transaction, 5 USD per sub-merchant onboarding and 2.50 USD per active sub-merchant per month. Payouts cost 0.50 USD next-day, 0.75 USD same-day or 1.50% instant. Custom pricing comes from sales.
Is Finix cheaper than Stripe?
At higher volume it often is, because Finix prices on top of interchange while Stripe's standard 2.9% plus 30 cents is a blended rate. The saving depends on your card mix and has to cover the cost of migrating processors and running payfac operations. Stripe also offers interchange-plus pricing to larger accounts, so ask for it before you switch.
Is Finix a payment facilitator?
Finix is a payment processor that lets software platforms operate as payment facilitators, or use its payfac-as-a-service model, so the platform onboards sub-merchants and sets their pricing. FractionalPay is not a processor or payment facilitator. It works on your Stripe platform account and never holds funds.
Can I split payments between multiple parties without leaving Stripe?
Yes. Stripe Connect moves money to connected accounts, and FractionalPay decides each party's share by rule, holds amounts until a release date, reverses every share on refunds and records it all in a double-entry ledger. You keep your Stripe checkout, saved cards and connected accounts as they are.
Does FractionalPay replace Finix or Stripe?
Neither. FractionalPay replaces the split, refund and payout code you would otherwise write on top of a processor. Stripe keeps processing the cards. If you later move to another processor for pricing reasons, the split rules and ledger history are still yours to export.
How fast can we test FractionalPay?
The same day. The split simulator needs no account, and after signup the sandbox runs with test keys and demo data, so you can split a copy of a real payment and see the ledger and payout dates before you connect your live Stripe account.
